Majic Readers,
Let me enchant you with the EXTRAordinary and share how reading changed my life, and how I want to help you do the same! It may sound cheesy but Growth Sometimes is.
Buckle up and come on this adventure, this is for anyone who wants to get into reading!
Believe in the Majic of Words:
There's nothing quite like the feeling of being transported to distant lands, meeting intriguing characters, and experiencing thrilling adventures. One of my favorite things to dive into reading, has been to learn from someone else's perspective. All through the majic of words. I love the phrase "A reader lives a thousand lives" so much so, that I got it as a tattoo.
(I actually have a sleeve of book symbols, but that's another story)
Believe in the power of that words have to transform our hearts, and minds. Dedicate a small amount of time to reading blogs like this, or books like self help, or even enchanting mysteries.
There are no RULES
Too often we put rules on what we should or shouldn't do. Not EVERYONE has time to curl up with a good book. Some of us won't have that daily amount of time to give. So try AUDIOBOOKS instead. They are JUST as valuable. You can listen whenever, wherever, however. Just get yourself a good set of ear buds, give into the AUDIO.
Comprehension not required
When you're reading a book or listening, you do not have to understand and travel through it educationally. (ESPECIALLY THE SEFL HELP BOOKS) Listen, We were ALL taught that we must read, understand, accept, and consume EVERY portion of the book. But that's just not required of this journey. They're just going to be things in the story that don't always have to make sense. Sometimes you can move on without understanding the exact reason why Jack and Jill took a left turn. Sometimes a self help story isn't going to resonate. Either move on from that section, or move on from the story. (Yes I do say this not in vain.) You're ALLOWED to give up on a story that doesn't sit easy with you. Maybe you weren't meant to read it yet, or maybe you just don't like it all that much.
Some tips for readers:
Set goals for yourself. Do you want to read one book a month? That's 12 more books than last year! Go for it.
Use multiple platforms and get a LIBRARY CARD! I am all for the paid apps, but free works great too. If you get a local Library card, you can convert that to a free digital card for Audio Books too. But you can ALSO use a subscription that gives you credits with Audible (Libby has a limited selection and Audible is a great back up)
Use "Good Reads" This is a FREE app, that lets you rate books you've read. It also keeps a digital library so you can put things on a "Shelf" for - I want to Read, I have Read, I am Reading. You can also get suggestions based on your ratings.
Ask people for suggestions. When you talk to other people, you're going to hear the books that really resonated with someone. I have almost always loved a book someone suggested. (Here is a list of my top self help suggestions)
Last but not least - Enjoy the adventure. Here is a link list of all the items I suggested.
Leave me a comment, tell me your favorite book suggestions.
